Broken Bow Ranch Lessons and Horse Camps is part of a ranch that has been around for over 150 years, with the Phillips family and its ranch helping organize the Stock Horse of Texas and being integral in establishing horsemanship and official Texan competitions. The program is led by owner and founder Gay Leigh Bingham, a female-led owner and seasoned equestrian expert with over 30 years of equestrian experience, over 30 years of experience giving horseback riding lessons, and 18+ years of academic teaching as a former high school Agriculture teacher. The stated goal of Broken Bow Ranch is “To create an outdoor experience where horses help us connect to ourselves and nature,” and its mission includes sharing the connection, confidence, and joy riders feel when they ride American Quarter Horses.

The ranch uses personally selected Quarter Horses for trail rides and offers a custom course designed from the first lesson to take riders as far as they would like to go, with lessons available at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels for riders of all ages and backgrounds. It is described as an all-around ranch that is all-things horses, with fun for all ages, safe, and good old-fashioned fun, and it is characterized as being at the forefront of caring for and training horses. Camps are described as fun and educational horse camps where young riders learn the joys of horse riding, and trail rides are presented as a way to escape from the daily grind with Texan activities.

One parent described a summer session as a “TRUELY HANDS ON CAMP” where their child fished, rode horses, and did archery, calling it “one EPIC WEEK well worth the money and experience.” Another parent shared that their three young boys and husband went on a trail ride that they described as “simply magical,” noting calm horses and “the most beautiful scenery” with lime green ponds. Other visitors mentioned that the ranchers know each horse by personality and temperament, that guides were knowledgeable and very friendly, and that a big family group enjoyed a birthday with horseback riding and barbecue. A parent who hosted a 13-year-old’s birthday party described food, fun, and conversation under a giant pecan tree, with 18 guests riding on two trail rides and younger children sitting on horses for pictures.
