The Museum of the Coastal Bend presents a permanent exhibit that displays the last 13,000 years of Texas history, from the first inhabitants of the Coastal Bend region through French, Spanish, and Mexican colonial efforts and a range of diverse influences that have created modern Texan culture. The museum states that visitors can “find 13,000 years of heritage at the Museum of the Coastal Bend,” “unearth the past at the Public Archaeology Lab,” and take a 360-degree photo tour. The museum’s mission is to showcase the rich multi-cultural heritage of the mid-coastal region of Texas and to enhance the appreciation and enjoyment of the region's heritage, with a purpose to collect, preserve, exhibit, interpret, and educate using the history and heritage of the region. Victoria College has served the Coastal Bend community since 1925, and the Museum of the Coastal Bend opened with a Chamber of Commerce Red Ribbon ceremony on October 11, 2003. Victoria College worked with board advisors and volunteers from Victoria and nearby communities to develop the museum, which complements existing local and regional museums and educational facilities. The leadership team includes Sue Prudhomme, Director; Glenn Dives, Exhibits & Collections Manager; Claudia Moseley, Education Coordinator; and Ben Hernandez, Operations Manager.
