About
SEEDS Summer Field Camps include Art-In-Nature themed activities such as painting, drawing, crafts, and “What color is water” art projects. Campers take part in Stream and Park Clean-ups, a “Save Our Streams” assessment, Nature Center Exhibit Design, local hikes, Freshwater Heritage of Blacksburg Walking Tours, fairs and community events, and class field trips to the nature center.

Founded in 1995, SEEDS has taught week-long summer day camps and programs since 1995. SEEDS Summer Field Camps are co-ed sessions, with full-day options for 8–10-year-olds and 10–14-year-olds, and SEEDS trips are designed to give older youth experience in new environments and cultures, including past travel camp trips to Florida, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Maine, and California. SEEDS is a 501(c)(3) charitable not-for-profit community youth education organization with a mission to inspire a natural curiosity and love for the environment in children and the young at heart through discovery learning, nature education, teacher support, and civic awareness. SEEDS works with the VT Biological Sciences Outreach Program and the Town of Blacksburg Department of Parks & Recreation to offer nature center programs and in-class and field trip opportunities, and collaborates with the Virginia Tech Perspective Gallery to provide weekly Art-In-Nature themed activities. SEEDS is the non-profit agent and a founding supporter of the 16 Frogs Watershed Initiative and works on the “Freshwater Heritage of Blacksburg” project teaming Virginia Tech undergraduates with local K–12 age kids. Through the VT Department of Biological Sciences Outreach Program (VT SOuP), SEEDS offers nature-themed teaching kits on loan to local teachers and works with schools and home schooling groups on supplemental curriculum, and it lists past and present affiliations and links with multiple local and regional organizations. The leadership team includes Mike Rosenzweig (CFO, Director, Blacksburg VA), Victoria Corbin (Board Member, Blacksburg VA), Kendra McCallister (Board Member, Blacksburg VA), Meryl Mims (Board Member, Blacksburg VA), Phyllis Leary Newbill (Board Member, Newport VA), Ryan Mowrey (SEEDS Camp Alumnus Board Member, Blacksburg VA), Robin Scully Boucher (Treasurer, Blacksburg VA), Anna Spillen (Board Member, Denver CO), Susan Whitehead (Board Member, Blacksburg VA), and Donna Douglas, Founder, Hawks Ridge Retreat, Floyd, VA (Honorary Board Member).
