Chestnut Academy includes activities that focus on developing language and communication skills, enhancing and nurturing creativity and exploration, and improving fine and gross motor skills. The program includes teaching cooperation through play and social time with peers, introducing children to shapes, colors, letters, numbers, and music, and supporting potty training, with teachers working closely with parents and children to make potty training an exciting and successful journey. Two- and three-year-old programs focus on multiple developmental areas, and the program offers overnight care with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts available.

Chestnut Academy is a for-profit operation that is privately owned and operated by the administration on site, and the operation is administered by a state-licensed director. Chestnut Academy teaches a state approved academic curriculum in addition to Christian principles and values, and specific church doctrines are not taught. The program will be licensed by the Virginia Department of Education and has been inspected and approved by the Local Department of Health and Safety, the Local Fire Marshall, and the Local Building Official. The stated purpose is to provide quality childcare and to assist each parent with achieving their desires for their child to grow to their fullest potential, to provide a safe environment that meets the child’s needs and encourages them to display their natural strengths, and to provide a nurturing atmosphere so that the child can focus on building their self-esteem through positive feedback and rewards. The stated philosophy is to provide care that will enhance the quality of each child’s life through sensitivity to individual needs and applying developmentally appropriate learning experiences that focus on the social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development of each child in care.
