Camp Hanover Summer Camp offers faith-based overnight and day camp programs for elementary, middle, and high school youth. In addition to summer camp, Camp Hanover also offers after-school care, group retreats, and special events throughout the year.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
Founded in 1957, Camp Hanover Summer Camp grew out of a 1956 gathering of 350 Presbyterians who met to lay the foundation for a Christian camp in the woods. Camp Hanover’s mission is to create inclusive community, inspire each other to live in God’s love, and equip all people to live out God’s call. It offers faith-based education, outreach, and faith formation, nurturing generations of young people in the Christian faith, and is described as a “Place Apart” and a “sacred place” for renewal and growth where Christ-centered community is nurtured and people can experience God’s presence in the natural world.
Camp Hanover is a fully accredited member of the American Camp Association and has maintained this accreditation consistently for over 60 years, meeting or exceeding the summer camping industry’s standards for safe operation and employing best practices to maintain a summer camp program of high quality. Nationally, only one camp in five holds this accreditation, and Camp Hanover is noted as a “Best of Virginia 2026.” The camp is a Ministry Partner with the Presbytery of the James and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), working to nurture and deepen the spiritual lives of congregations and to provide members with ways to practice their faith through mission service and outreach.
Parents describe Camp Hanover as a place where “all are welcome” and say that this welcome is lived out “in the care and love they provide for everyone who visits.” One parent reports that camp had “a wonderful impact” on their child’s character and speaks of being grateful to show others the grace their child received at Camp Hanover. Another parent notes seeing their children return “stronger, more confident, and self-aware,” and says each child has found “belonging, identity, and purpose through life lessons and relationships found at Camp.” A parent of a high school camper calls camp “a turning point in shaping who he is, gaining confidence and realizing his strengths.” A mother of elementary school campers highlights seeing counselors playing with campers, being silly with them in appropriate ways, joining them on the mud slide, and describes this as “healthy, active, outdoors, silly when appropriate, listening when needed.”
