About

The St. James FC Lovettsville Recreational Soccer program includes the Discover Soccer Program, an internal Recreational Soccer League, and NCSL Recreational League games for U13–U16. The Discover Soccer Program incorporates fun games with introductory skill development, and the Discover 2 Program begins to incorporate the actual game of soccer. The Recreational Soccer League includes skill development and game play, and U13–U16 Recreational League teams participate in NCSL Recreational League games that combine a number of local clubs.

Lovettsville is one of the newer recreational locations in The St. James FC (formerly FC Virginia) program model and offers programs for players 2–16 through the Discover Soccer Program, internal Recreational League, and, beginning Spring 2024, participation in the NCSL Recreational League for U13+ teams. The Discover Soccer Program is for players 2–5 years old and is managed and run by professional coaching staff at TSJFC (formerly FC Virginia). The Recreational Soccer League is for players 5–16 years old who want to play in a more casual way, with skill development and game play led by volunteer coaching staff, and U13–U16 Recreational League teams are managed and coached by a combination of professional coaching staff and volunteers. The Recreational League program is completely managed by professional coaching staff who provide operational field support and support to volunteer coaches on and off the field. For Summer 2024, registration is open for Discover Soccer (ages 2–5) and for the Recreational League for U6–U10.

The St. James states that it strives to provide the highest level of soccer experience regardless of level of interest or play and describes itself as the preeminent educational and performance resource center for youth soccer players in the United States. The mission for student-athletes includes a comprehensive soccer development experience for beginners and advanced players, with a goal of making youth soccer player development a measurable and educationally meaningful experience for the child and family, with a deliberate focus on “learning by doing” and holistic training, mentorship, and competition. The St. James Performance Academy is described as one of the world’s foremost, state-of-the-art, multi-sport training destinations providing a holistic and tailored academic experience alongside sport-specific training and world-class instruction.

The U13–U16 Recreational League participates in the NCSL Recreational League, which combines a number of local clubs to play meaningful recreational games for older age group players. Eugene Asamoah is the Director of Recreational Soccer and has been involved in coaching at the club and high school level locally for almost 10 years. The leadership group connected to the broader soccer program includes Eugene Asamoah (Director of Recreational Soccer), Adam Baumgardner (Director of Soccer & Technical Director), Lynne McMillan (Club Administrator/Registrar), Justin O'Shell (Girls Academy Director for 2008–2014 girls), Herve Diese (MLS Next Academy Director for 2008–2014), Justin Cook (Director of Goalkeeping), Josh DeDios (Director of Futsal: South), Anas Bouihiri (Director USL-Y League/Super Y League), and Nick Pedaline (Director of Recreational Soccer), with the Lovettsville Site Coordinator listed as TBD.
