About

KJPAS Intensives includes a Winter Musical Theater Camp/Intensive and a Summer Intensive that focus on staging musical theater, acting for film and television, and improvisation. Program activities include staging as much of the hit Broadway and film musical WICKED as possible, a showcase theme of WICKED, KJPAS Big Game Night, and A Wicked Night at the Improv. KJPAS Intensives also connects with Vocal & Acting Training Studio Lessons, which offer virtual sessions, self-taping sessions, and preparation to self-submit for upcoming auditions for theater, film, and television, with professional training with Broadway performers.

• Ages: 10–18 years old
• Schedule: A winter weekend intensive runs from Friday, January 30 at 4pm through Sunday, February 1 at 5pm, and is structured so that in 48 hours participants stage as much of the WICKED musical as possible.

Kevin Jones serves as the artistic director of the KJPAS Summer and Winter Intensives and has held this role for 27 years, including the 27th annual Winter Intensive and 27th annual Summer Intensive. He is a native of Toronto, Canada, and has worked for more than 30 years in professional theatre as an actor, musical director, director, and choreographer, with credits that include the Broadway first and fourth national tours of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, the Asian tour of Annie, the European tour of Annie Get Your Gun, three productions of Evita, and two of Phantom. He has served as musical supervisor for the Oceania Marina and Regent Seven Seas Mariner cruise ships, is an alumnus of Western University in Canada with a B.MUS.ED and The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City with a certificate in musical theater performance, and has coached hundreds of actors into Broadway shows, national tours, regional theater productions, film, and television shows. For 22 years, he has been the choreographer for the award winning Roanoke Valley Children's Choir.

KJPAS Intensives is described as a 27th annual residential camp/intensive for 5th through 12th graders, offering a full week of professional training with Broadway performers in the summer and a weekend of professional training in the winter. The program is described as a professional training program for children, teens, and adults that fully prepares each student for professional theatre and/or college auditions, as well as acting for film and television, with a curriculum that is individualized for each student. KJPAS collects data for students for the purpose of developing a study, practice, and performance curriculum suited for the student, and states that this information is kept private and only used by KJPAS for that purpose. KJPAS notes that its student success rate is exceptional, with many students going on to perform in Broadway shows, national tours, film and television, and regional theatre productions, and others studying at top theatre schools in the country, and that almost every student Kevin coaches not only gets cast in the show they are auditioning for, but almost always lands a leading role.

KJPAS Big Game Night and A Wicked Night at the Improv are listed as part of the intensive experience, along with improvisation and acting for film and television. Event “Ticket” fulfillment is handled via emailed admission, intensive tuition is non-refundable once submitted, and there is a 100% refund if an Intensive is cancelled by KJPAS. Kevin relocated to central Kansas in July 2024, and unless a student lives in central Kansas, all lessons are conducted via FaceTime.

Testimonials from former students include comments from Nigel Huckle, who states that Kevin helped him unleash his talent and prepare for a high caliber musical theatre program at Shenandoah University while working professionally in the summers, and from MacKenzie Mauzy, who describes attending Kevin Jones’ first camp (intensive) and learning what auditioning would look like and how to interact with directors and music directors.
