Kids Kikkin It Pre-K, LLC includes Martial Arts as part of its daily experience for children. The program teaches Japanese Martial Arts and karate, and all students enrolled in the preschool are taught Martial Arts as part of the Pre-K curriculum. The program also uses the PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening) assessment and the VKRP (Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program) assessment. The facility offers almost 9,000 square feet for quality education and is described as a ONE STOP SHOP for early education and overall personal character development. The program includes a well established after-school karate program, and Shanaki Martial Arts and Kids Kikkin It Pre-K, LLC have produced multiple National and World Karate Champions.
Kids Kikkin It Pre-K, LLC is licensed under the Virginia Department of Education and is a licensed daycare facility. It is the area's only fully licensed facility with a Virginia licensed special education teacher. The preschool was formed by a licensed Early Childhood Education teacher who received her degree from the University of Kentucky. After teaching in the public schools in Kentucky and Virginia for nearly 18 years, Shawna Shannon, a licensed special education teacher, decided it was time to open her own preschool. The owners, Scot and Shawna Shannon, understood the need for quality childcare in the area. The preschool was formed in order to serve the Wytheville area and surrounding communities. The program states that all families are welcome and children are provided with a safe, nurturing, and quality program that focuses on building relationships with families, and that the staff and owners are dedicated to meeting the needs of all children that choose the program for their care. The program notes that it loves and appreciates all of the families it has served for forty-plus years.
