Centerstage Academy offers private and group instruction in music lessons, theatre classes, acting classes, and musical theatre productions, including ensemble performance and recital programs. Centerstage Academy was founded in 1995 and has been helping families discover the joy of the arts for 30 years. Its teachers are experienced professionals with university degrees and professional performance experience. The program states that it is dedicated to bringing the joy of the arts into the lives of its students and describes itself as the leading “Kids Conservatory” on the Peninsula. Centerstage Academy reports that its acting classes and musical theatre productions are a favorite among its families and that its professional teachers are passionate about sharing their talents and inspiring the next generation of students. The Young Performers program is described as a unique exploratory experience for children ages 10 months to 6 years that includes music, singing, instruments, drama, choreography, and mini-musical productions. Private Acting Lessons are described as one-on-one coaching sessions that are a resource for auditions, character work, accents, and more, while Improv & Acting is described as a skills-based class using improvisation and scene work. Joy of Acting is specifically for students on the autism spectrum and includes social skills through improvisation, comedy, and musical theatre, and Advanced Acting offers college-level coursework and requires an audition and/or instructor invitation. SHREK THE MUSICAL A 30th Anniversary Celebration is described as fun for the whole family, with a knock-out production that includes many featured and ensemble roles open by audition to new students, adult alumni, and friends, with three performances at the Glenn Close Theater at W&M.
