Early Care and Education includes outdoor play, interactive story time, hands-on crafts, songs, games, hands-on nature activities, outdoor adventures, and sensory activities. The program brings children outside to play and learn every day it is feasible to do so, and keeps the physical space and materials simple and grounded by natural elements whenever possible.
• Ages: 6 weeks–5 years old
The program offers full-service, year-round Early Care and Education for children from 6 weeks to kindergarten and is licensed for 59 children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. Staff are trained in child development, early childhood education, early childhood mental health, special education, child nutrition, CPR, First Aid, and other related fields, and are selected for their warmth, understanding, and friendliness. Parents and caregivers are regarded as partners and are encouraged to play an active role in the functioning of the program and in their child’s experiences, with many opportunities for involvement through serving on the Board of Directors, working with committees, helping with fundraising, volunteering, or other activities, and parents are welcome to visit the program at any time.
The program is part of the Orange County Parent Child Center, which is one of Vermont’s Parent Child Centers, a network of 15 community-based non-profit organizations that serve all areas of the state and serve as a home base for Vermont families who need support. Orange County Parent-Child Center is one of fifteen Vermont Parent Child Centers and serves 15 Central Vermont towns in Orange County and northern Windsor County: Bethel, Bradford, Brookfield, Chelsea, Corinth, Fairlee, Newbury, Randolph, Rochester, Stockbridge, Thetford, Topsham, Tunbridge, Vershire, and West Fairlee. The Center partners with other service providers to coordinate services and supports partnerships with public schools to provide public pre-kindergarten services to three- and four-year-olds under Act 166, bringing family support and outreach programming into homes and communities throughout Orange County. The Executive Director is Lindsey Trombley, and the program’s mission is to help families and children thrive and build a sense of belonging within their communities by connecting them to education, support, advocacy, and wellness opportunities.
