About

Children's Dance Theater Dance Program includes dance, theater, and art activities, along with preschool programming. The program offers Ballet Productions such as the Nutcracker and the Spring Ballet, the Thrive Competition Team for competition dance, and Spotlight Theater Productions.

• Ages: 3–18 years old

Children’s Dance Theater was founded in 2007. The program is built around four pillar areas: Dance, Theater, Art, and Preschool, and includes specialty classes meant to introduce each art form, develop skill, and provide inspiration. Instructors in the program have over 20 years of experience, and faculty mentor and guide every student to help them achieve their best. The program holds an annual June dance performance, Ballet Productions including the Nutcracker each December and/or a Spring Ballet with free-of-charge auditions open to dancers from both Children’s Dance Theater and the wider community, and a variety of performances and art exhibitions throughout the year. Some shows and community events require auditions and additional costs, while others are available through sign up with little to no cost, and the program also offers a free first trial class.

Children’s Dance Theater states that it offers a unique learning experience by combining dance, theater, art, and preschool into one comprehensive program, with a focus on allowing children to explore creativity while learning dance fundamentals in a supportive and encouraging environment. Experiences in the program are crafted around social, emotional, fine motor, and gross motor landmarks, and class styles are tailored to promote fun in a family-friendly setting. The program describes its community as one built between students, staff, and parents, where students are considered more than just students and are described as family. Through the program, Children’s Dance Theater reports that it teaches love, acceptance, accountability, work-ethic, self-discipline, being a teammate, tolerance, and responsibility, and it states a belief that confidence, poise, dedication, and self-expression are just as important as the art itself.

Children’s Dance Theater notes that it is inclusive of students from all walks of life, including neurodivergent students, and that it works with families to ensure that students who are neurodivergent or have different physical abilities have a place in the programs. The dress code has been updated to include female, male, and non-binary students, and the program is transitioning to flesh-toned tights and ballet shoes instead of pink tights. The program does not cast roles based on appearance or resemblance to a well-known character, but instead bases casting on skill and performance. Children’s Dance Theater states that it complies with all federal rules and regulations and does not illegally discriminate on the basis of age; gender; race; color; creed; religion; national origin (including language); sex; sexual orientation including gender expression or identity; honorably discharged veteran or military status; or the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability.

Children’s Dance Theater reports that it works hard to provide ample opportunity for students to have their work seen by an audience through a variety of shows and community events that students can sign up to be part of. One parent, Michelle L., states that her family loves Children’s Dance Theater, describes the teachers and staff as wonderful, patient, and attentive to the kids, and notes that her daughter has taken classes there for a few years and continues to grow in her skills.
