Sponge offers Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Japanese, and German after-school classes for K-5th grades. It also offers online classes for kids, private tutoring, Child & Caregiver Classes for newborn to 4 years, Just Kids for 3-5 years, and an Elementary School program for K-5th grades.

At a glance

• Ages: 0–11 years old
• General schedule: Classes are 55 minutes long. The first 50 minutes are in the target language, and the last 5 minutes provide an opportunity for questions and discussion in English. Sponge uses new, fun units every 5 weeks.

About the provider

Sponge’s elementary program has three goals: build communication skills, develop language-learning strategies, and broaden students’ understanding of the world. Sponge classes are available in the greater Seattle area and the Eastside, and Sponge curriculum is used under license by Mercer Island School District to teach Spanish to over 2,000 students weekly across its elementary school World Languages Program.

Sponge's classes are designed for kids who are ready for independent learning. Sponge stays in the target language to optimize learning. Sponge offers one 50% off needs-based scholarship for each class that meets the minimum enrollment. Classes use games, crafts, sing and move, with an English Q&A/discussion period at the end.
