• Ages: 4–12 years old
• Schedule: Jun 22–Aug 28, 8:00am–6:00pm, closed July 3
The camp includes Sports & Rec where kids can run, jump, throw, kick, play classic sports, and make up new games, along with water activities such as water tag, inflatable slip n’ slides, and a giant sprinkler. Weekly specials may include a giant inflatable, a musical performance, a movement workshop, or a popup petting zoo, and long-standing traditions include Find Chuckie and Friday Pie-Day. The program also offers Carnival Day on the last day of camp with carnival games, extra treats, and chances to win prizes.
Steve & Kate's Camp states that all year long kids are in rigid structure, and that in summer the camp gives them freedom to expand and evolve, with campers choosing which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long. The camp describes this experience as both pure joy for kids and a training ground for life where they are empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions. The program offers summer day camps for kids aged 4–12 and also states that camp is for kids ages 4–12 for holiday camps.
Families can buy any number of days and send their child to camp any day, drop off and pick up at any time during camp hours, and receive automatic refunds for unused days at summer’s end. The program notes that all-inclusive rates cover all camp hours from 8:00am–6:00pm, snacks and lunch, and any activities that interest the child, with automatic full refunds for unused purchased Day Passes and partial refunds for underused Summer Passes. The camp also states that parents can buy any number of day passes, attend camp any time, and get automatic refunds for any unused passes.
The camp notes that cuisine includes snacks and lunch with rotating specials and healthy snacks and sides available anytime, and that it partners with fan favorite restaurants to provide food. Tasty meals and snacks are included, and weekly specials such as giant inflatables, musical performances, movement workshops, and a popup petting zoo are part of the program. Staff dedicated specifically to supporting youngest campers are identified as Youngest Camper Support Staff.
The program’s history notes that way back in 1980, Steve and Kate saw kids’ precious independence slipping away, and that today the camp has spawned more than 70, and also more than 90, islands of freedom from Manhattan to Manhattan Beach. The Bellevue - North camp lists Olivia as the Director. As summer approaches, registered families receive an email with a link to a virtual camp orientation that covers local camp drop-off and pick-up procedures, how to check in and out each day, what to bring and not bring, and other camp details.
Testimonials about Steve & Kate’s Camp include comments from Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, who says that children at the camp blossom and discover a freedom of identity and that kids find their thumbprint there. Apple’s Hot News states that if kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve & Kate’s Camp. Variety magazine notes that the camp did not set out to cater to children of people at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic, but that many attend given the camp’s philosophy. The Washington Post describes the camp as a blend of traditional camp experience with a modern, tech-savvy touch, with a laid-back aura and Silicon Valley-inspired innovative approaches to programming and payment. The Chicago Tribune states that working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.
