About

Lake Chelan Swim is an annual 1.5-mile open water swim that starts at Willow Point Park and finishes at Manson Bay Park. Participants complete the full 1.5-mile course in a mass start format, following equipment and safety rules that include wearing a uniquely numbered swim cap and attending a Mandatory Safety Meeting before entering the water.

• Ages: 12–18 years old
• Schedule: Annual event held the first Saturday after Labor Day, with check-in starting at 9:00 AM and a Mandatory Safety Meeting at 11:00 AM
• Price: All proceeds from advance registration directly support free swim lessons at Manson Bay Park

The Lake Chelan Swim raises funds and awareness for swimming lessons in the area, benefiting both residents and visitors, and focuses on promoting the beauty of Lake Chelan and the importance of keeping it clean and vibrant. Funds generated from the swim are directed to the Manson Parks Department Aquatics program, allowing hundreds of kids to receive free swimming lessons each year, and free swim lessons are provided at Manson Bay Park. The Lake Chelan Swim is a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible non-profit organization and is supported by sponsors including Manson Bay Lifeguard Assn., Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards, Succession Wine, Wine Girl Wines, Manson Fire Volunteers Association, Brian Bauer, Mary Briggs, RAS Construction, R. Kirk Mathewson, Lake Chelan Lions Club, Cairdeas Winery, Mountain View Lodge, Shoreline Watercraft Rental, Manson Parks Department, and numerous generous donors.

Wetsuits are encouraged but not required, masks and snorkels are allowed, and Safety Swimmers (buoys pulled behind the swimmer) are allowed and encouraged. Fins or flippers, life jackets, other flotation devices, and hand fins are not allowed for medal eligibility, and swimmers using fins or flippers must start at the back of the pack and will not qualify for a medal. The water temperature is usually between 65 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and the event will go on in almost any weather conditions, with a possible delay in case of lightning. Safety support for the swim includes volunteer kayakers and power boaters, and each swimmer receives a numbered white plastic bag for personal items that volunteers transport from the start to the finish area. Spectators can watch at Manson Bay Park and may take a bus to Willow Point for the start and then return to Manson Bay Park, while a local school bus shuttles swimmers from Manson Bay Park to Willow Point Park for the start.
