About

Play-Well TEKnologies offers Adventures in STEM using LEGO® materials, where students build engineer-designed projects and use special pieces to create their own unique designs. Participants work on engineering and architectural projects and spend time inspecting, testing, modifying, and rebuilding their creations using LEGO®.

• Ages: 5–8 years old
• Schedule: July 8–12, 2024, Monday–Friday, 9:00am–12:00pm

Play-Well TEKnologies provides project-based programs that teach principles and methods of engineering to children ages 5–14 using LEGO®. The curriculum is designed by engineers and includes LEGO®-inspired engineering classes for kids in grades K–8. Each class utilizes over 20,000 LEGO® pieces, and students have access to tens of thousands of LEGO® parts. The curriculum builds on math and science skills learned during the school year and engages students in solving real-world engineering challenges that explore concepts in physics, architecture, and engineering. Summer camp goals include developing and enhancing students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills, introducing children to concepts and vocabulary of engineering and architecture as well as new building techniques, and providing an opportunity to have an enjoyable time with the LEGO® building system. Curriculums are ever evolving, and projects are rotated seasonally so that new and returning students encounter new projects, and instructors offer advanced challenges and modifications to push experienced LEGO® builders to the next level. The curriculum is flexible and adjusts to the interests and experience level of the students, and instructors aim to ensure that no student is bored or unchallenged. Play-Well TEKnologies has been growing future engineers since 1997 and operates nationwide.

Participants do not get to take any of the LEGO® materials home with them, and Play-Well TEKnologies does not sell the LEGO® parts used in summer camps and classes. Parents and guardians are asked to sign children in and out each day of the summer camp, and instructors stay in the classroom with the child until a parent or guardian arrives to pick them up and sign them out. Parents are encouraged to provide a peanut-free snack, as Play-Well TEKnologies does not provide snacks, and the organization cannot guarantee that LEGO® pieces in their kits are completely free of peanut oils. Parents and guardians are encouraged to come 30 minutes before the end of class to see the student’s project or to give the child a device to take pictures, and Play-Well TEKnologies is not responsible for any lost or broken devices.
