Swimming Lessons include Parent Tot Swimming Lessons, multiple levels of Preschool Swimming Lessons, and Youth Swimming Lessons from Level 1 through Level 6. The program also offers a Swim Lesson Scholarships (Swimmership) option for participants who meet the grade requirements.
Programs
- Parent Tot Swimming Lessons — 6 months-2.5 years
- Preschool 1 Swimming Lessons — 2.5-5.5 years
- Preschool 2 Swimming Lessons — 2.5-5.5 years
- Preschool 3 Swimming Lessons — 2.5-5.5 years
- Preschool 4 Swimming Lessons — 2.5-5.5 years · Skill Level: Advance – skills must be done independently. Purpose: Refine and strengthen aquatic skills, increasing distance; introduce water rescue and water safety skills.
- Youth 1 Swimming Lessons — 5.5-12 years
- Youth 2 Swimming Lessons — 5.5-12 years · Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate – skills can be done with assistance from instructor. Purpose: Build on the basic aquatic skills and water safety skills and concepts learned in Level 1.
- Youth 3 Swimming Lessons — 5.5-12 years · Skill Level: Intermediate – skills must be done independently. Purpose: Build on the skills learned in Levels 1 and 2 to help participants achieve basic water competency in a pool environment.
- Youth 4 Swimming Lessons — 5.5-12 years · Skill Level: Intermediate – skills must be done independently. Purpose: Improve participants’ proficiency in performing the swimming strokes that were introduced in Level 3.
- Youth 5 Swimming Lessons — 5.5-12 years · Skill Level: Advance – skills must be done independently. Purpose: Help participants refine their performance of all six swimming strokes.
- Youth 6 Swimming Lessons — 5.5-12 years

About the provider
The Swimming Lessons program is part of the Federal Way Community Center, which is part of the City of Federal Way and offers programming that includes enrichment, fitness, athletic, and educational opportunities for all ages, abilities, and cultures. The Federal Way Youth Commission established the FirStep Scholarship in 2019 to award funds to youth who are unable to afford recreational activities, based on the belief that recreation is important for the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development of children.
