• Ages: 3–18 years old
Fresh Attitude Dance Studio was started in 2001 after a week-long dance clinic that drew 40 attendees who all stayed on as the studio officially began. The studio offers ballet lessons for ages 3 and up, hip-hop and lyrical lessons for ages 5 and up, and contemporary lessons for ages 12 and up, in what is described as an encouraging, healthy environment. The studio has a Christian faith emphasis, including giving credit for the studio to Jesus and staff describing themselves as passionate followers of Jesus Christ.
Owner Sharnessa Sanden graduated from the School of Creative Ministries under the International Bible Institute of London and was co-choreographer for the Christian pop group V*Enna; she has performed in, choreographed, produced and/or directed many musical productions and performances at local venues, churches, a college in London, England, dance tutorial videos, conferences, and high school choirs and ensembles. V*Enna toured the U.S. and Europe, performed for thousands, and was featured on national television, radio, and magazines in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Instructor Vola Moore has taken dance on and off for over 20 years starting at age three, has studied ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, contemporary, modern and interpretive dance, has taught ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical at other studios, has performed in plays, has run a church dance team, and has been dancing with Fresh Attitude for twelve years and teaching lyrical there for eleven years. Instructor Dani Klee began her dance career at age three, has done 19 years of hip-hop and 17 years of lyrical, and has been a teacher at Fresh Attitude for eleven years. Instructor Beth Lee has taken tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, ballet, and musical theater, has taken dance at Fresh Attitude since her sophomore year of high school, and has been a teacher there since 2018. Instructor Emily Johnson has been involved in theater and dance since early childhood, has trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, lyrical and tap, has been teaching dance since 2004, and has been teaching with Fresh Attitude since 2016. Instructor Grace Moore started dancing when she was 7, has taken hip hop, lyrical, ballet and contemporary, and this is her third year teaching.
The studio’s stated mission includes a belief that what is created should be both excellent and relevant, and that the Arts, including dance, can be extremely powerful for both the performer and the observer, with a focus on telling “the most amazing story ever told” directly or indirectly through their giftings. A quoted statement associated with the program is, “Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion,” attributed to Martha Graham.
