About
PNW Junior Academy offers golf instruction that includes tournament preparation, on-course instruction, short game practice, putting practice, fitness, simulator rental, and swing analysis. The program uses Trackman data and slow-motion video analysis, and it stores swing videos, test results, and screencasts in the cloud for 24/7 access. Weekly 2-hour classes keep the same instructor and group together for the entire season, and the curriculum covers golf fundamentals as well as advanced techniques, including mental conditioning and on-course strategies.
• Schedule: Spring January–May and Fall September–December with weekly 2-hour classes
• Price: $200 one-time initiation fee; $385/month for 1/week training (8 hours/month); $700/month for 2/week training (16 hours/month or two family members)
PNW Junior Academy is part of PNW Golf Academy, which operates Western Washington’s only indoor/outdoor golf academy and uses state-of-the-art facilities equipped with Trackman technology. Families receive 10% off equipment purchases and $25 simulator rentals (regularly $40), and multiple membership options are available. The program states that its main goal is a lifelong love for golf and that it emphasizes character development through sportsmanship, integrity, and discipline, and it can create tailored programs through private or group instruction and fitness.
Instruction is led by a team of former Division I collegiate golfers and experienced professionals. Owner Alex Dunlop is a Seattle native with over 20 years of competitive and recreational golf experience, a PGA Class “A” certification, and was the youngest ever to win the Western Washington Chapter’s PGA Teacher of the Year. Instructors include Derek Berg, a former University of Washington scholarship golfer and 2019 Northwest Open Champion with multiple regional titles and PGA National Club Pro appearances from 2020–2023; Matt Fonner, a TPI Certified coach with mini tour and Canadian Tour experience; Vicky Tsai, a PGA Class A Professional and former NCAA Division I golfer fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese; Tyler Claybrook, a PGA Associate who led the Seattle GOLFTEC region in lessons taught; Blake Snyder, a Seattle native with seven years on tours including the Asian Tour and multiple Western Washington PGA awards and wins; Jamie Hall, a five-year touring pro with recent top finishes in regional opens; and Alex Sherry, who has a background in player development, club fitting, and TrackMan technology.
Parents have shared feedback that Alex Dunlop provided instruction that led to a productive 70-shot practice session and that the experience left one customer feeling like a better golfer than when he arrived. Another customer said Alex is excellent at translating swing concepts into easy-to-understand words, uses Trackman and video analysis, and makes the experience fun for both beginners and advanced players.
