Olympic Park Institute (NatureBridge Olympic) opened in Olympic National Park in Washington state in 1987. NatureBridge’s mission is to connect young people to the wonder and science of the natural world, igniting self-discovery and inspiring stewardship of our planet. NatureBridge is the largest overnight environmental education partner of the National Park Service and operates in four national park locations: Yosemite National Park, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Olympic National Park, and Prince William Forest Park. NatureBridge connects over 30,000 students and 700 schools each year through overnight environmental education in national parks, and over 4,000 students each year learn from and connect with Olympic’s landscape on the shore of Lake Crescent. NatureBridge partners with the National Park Service to provide 30,000 students from over 700 schools access to their national parks for discovery, investigation and learning each year. NatureBridge acknowledges that its programs take place in the ancestral homelands of Tribes, Bands and First Nations, including for Olympic: the Klallam/S'Klallam, Makah, Quinault, Quileute, Skokomish, Hoh and the Queets tribes. One parent shared, “My kids experienced a sense of wonder and awe as they explored the beauty of this place. Many do not want to go home. The educators are the strongest part to the program. They are well trained with wonderful enthusiasm.”
