About
The Whole Horse Place gives participants meaningful, hands-on time with senior horses, including feeding, grooming, caring for them, and spending unmounted time together. The program includes learning to halter a horse, teaching all aspects of horsemanship from the very first step up to more advanced horsemanship, and may include riding, although riding is not guaranteed and is not the focus. It is not a traditional riding barn or a riding lesson facility with all the bells and whistles, and its programs are geared to the average person with little or no horse experience.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
The Whole Horse Place is an all-volunteer facility that rescues senior horses with no other options and partners them with people of all ages, especially youth and veterans. Its mission is to enrich lives with horses and to give senior horses a place to live their lives out with dignity and respect, with a focus on care rather than riding. The organization welcomes youth, veterans, families, and individuals from all walks of life and holds 501(c)3 Not for Profit status. Many of the horses were rescued after facing hardship, and the program focuses on building trust, learning responsibility, and creating lasting connections between people and horses. The founders first started with horses in 4H twenty five years ago.
Participants are asked to complete a waiver before taking part, either by using the digital waiver, printing and bringing a paper waiver, or filling one out on-site, allowing an extra 10 minutes if signing upon arrival.
