About
Cispus Learning Center Outdoor Education & Challenge Course Programs offers a Low Course with more than 25 elements and field initiatives, a Rock Wall with four walls ranging from beginner to advanced, and Traveling Ropes that bring the low course experience to participant sites with more than 50 portable initiatives. The program also includes trainings and resources to learn facilitation of social and emotional learning (SEL) activities, with a focus on social and emotional growth through challenge course work. Most groups and individuals experience team bonding, personal growth, stronger communication skills, enhanced self-esteem and confidence, increased trust between group members, and fun.

The Cispus Learning Center operates as a division of the Washington School Principals Education Foundation, a non-profit program of the Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP), and is operated in partnership with the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The current site was first constructed as a Civilian Conservation Corps camp in the early 1930s, was remodeled and transformed into a Job Corps training site in 1966 in a joint venture with the U.S. Forest Service, and has been managed by the Association of Washington School Principals since 1981 under a lease agreement with the U.S. Forest Service. The mission of the Cispus Learning Center is to furnish functional, esthetically sound facilities and curricular resources for supporting outdoor education and leadership training to young people, and to provide facilities and outdoor education learning opportunities to various groups deemed compatible with the Cispus setting. Today, Cispus is also home to the Association of Washington Student Leaders and hosts several programs, camps, and retreats that bring thousands of students from around Washington to its campus. The Programs Manager is Moses Jouwsma.
