About
Eastside Crusaders Junior Football offers youth tackle football, flag football, and cheer. The program is faith-centered and part of a faith-based athletic community that emphasizes Faith, Family, Football & Fun. Participants do not need to be Catholic, attend Eastside Catholic School, or live in a specific area to play or cheer for Eastside Crusaders Junior Football, and there are no geographic restrictions for participation.
Eastside Crusaders Junior Football was founded in 2004. The program states that it is modeled on the belief that a player’s character is just as important as his ability. All coaches complete mandatory training through USA Football, Positive Coaching Alliance, the Northwest Junior Football League (NJFL), and Eastside Crusaders Junior Football. The program participates in an age- and weight-restricted league through the NJFL and is described as a Sammamish-based youth football and cheer program with alumni from many Seattle-area cities. Eastside Catholic High School varsity football players and cheerleaders mentor youth through the Crusader Buddies program. Abusive or profane behavior is not tolerated, and the importance of players getting and keeping on top of their academic studies is constantly reinforced.
Eastside Crusaders Junior Football identifies as a leader in player safety, including concussion awareness and prevention, and focuses on solid football fundamentals to help prevent injury and prepare players for high school football. ECJF is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The program has earned multiple NJFL League Championships in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011 (two titles), 2013, and 2017. Football team championships include ECJF PeeWee Champions (2017), ECJF Senior Champions (2016, 2015, 2014, 2011 when Seniors were Juniors), ECJF Junior Champions (2013, 2007 when Juniors were Bantams), ECJF PeeWee Champions (2011 when PeeWees were Midgets), and ECJF Bantam Champions (2008 when Bantams were PeeWees). Cheer team championships include 2018 Harbor CheerFest Junior Tumbling Champions, 2018 Harbor CheerFest Youth Tumbling Champions, and 2017 Holiday Invitational Junior Tumbling Champions.
As a member of the NJFL, Eastside Crusaders Junior Football is part of a league that has partnered with UW Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital for a study on concussions in youth sports. Seattle Children’s Hospital provides care for youth athletes in the NJFL, and certified athletic trainers are present at every NJFL game. Every year, NJFL coaches attend Positive Coaching Alliance training, and all NJFL games are officiated by Pacific Northwest Football Officials Association (PNFOA) referees.
