About

Girls Rock Math is a one-week camp where campers play games, sing songs, create art, and take part in arts and crafts projects. Each day includes math activities such as real-world problem-solving, partner activities, projects, math games, measuring, finding area and perimeter, computation, graphing, probability, and geometry, along with recess and time outside. Campers also join community building activities, The Circle Up, and special events like a weekly water play day with wet and wild games or, when weather keeps them inside, a camp-themed scavenger hunt.

• Schedule: One Week

At Girls Rock Math, math concepts, skills, and practice are integrated into arts and exciting themes so that math happens throughout the day, and many of the math activities are done outside. Campers are placed into small groups with a dedicated counselor, while experienced teachers lead and oversee the whole camp class and counselors work closely with their campers. The Circle Up is a special time of day when small groups meet with their counselor to focus on social emotional skills that change weekly. Community building activities are part of every day at camp, and each week also includes an introduction to STEM and STEM careers. On Fridays there is a big end-of-the-week celebration where campers and staff thank and appreciate one another, and everyone receives a pin for their years at camp. The program’s mission states that Girls Rock Math reinforces that math is fun and imaginative and aims to boost interest and confidence in mathematics. Learning at Girls Rock Math allows for collaboration and emphasizes persistence, strategy building, and mathematical thinking.

Girls Rock Math offers Girls R.O.C.K Leadership Camp, a program for middle schoolers that empowers 7th and 8th graders to take a leadership role at camp as Leadership Campers (Counselors in Training). Leadership Campers support and work with primary campers throughout the week, help plan activities, lead games, and also join in making art and doing math alongside the kids. Teen Leadership participants have daily meetings called The Circle Up that include games, reflection, and leadership activities such as goal setting and providing feedback to one another. Teen Leaders work directly with campers and as a team as they plan and coordinate fun activities such as the Friday Fun festivities, and they support and mentor campers and gain important life skills throughout the week. Staff members inspire, support, and guide campers throughout the week with a focus on making sure every camper feels included and valued at camp.

Girls Rock Math notes that it has accreditations and accolades, and it continues to grow its community of confident young mathematicians with over a dozen camp locations across Washington State and new sites launching in Northern and Southern California.
