About

Sunshine From Polynesia offers Polynesian dance, drumming, music, Hawaiian hula, Tahitian, and ukulele. Classes include small groups geared for a variety of student skill levels, from beginners to those with advanced experience. Students take part in a bi-annual “main event” Luau/Recital (Ho’ike) where they perform dances they have learned throughout the year. Sunshine From Polynesia also provides Polynesian entertainment with dancers, drummers, singers, and fire performers, and is bookable for corporate or public events, private functions, luaus, weddings, birthday parties, or backyard gatherings.

For over 30 years, Sunshine From Polynesia has focused on the teaching, performance, and preservation of hula, described as a unique storytelling dance. Sunshine From Polynesia was founded in 1978 as a performance company, and in 1985 founder Lita Hoke added dance instruction. Lita’s training began in 1972 with Kumu Auntie Marge Hunt. Honolulu-born Coco Hoke, Lita’s high school sweetheart and husband, anchors the Sunshine From Polynesia musical group with drums, ukulele, and vocals, and their daughter, Stefanie Hoke Foster, is a core dancer.

One parent describes Sunshine From Polynesia as a wonderful, family-oriented group focused on Polynesian music, dance, and culture, and says their daughter has blossomed there and the family has made many friends. Another testimonial states that Sunshine From Polynesia exceeded all expectations when performing at a wedding and that everyone was enthralled. Sunshine From Polynesia also provides Polynesian entertainment in the greater Seattle area with dancers, drummers, singers, and fire performers, and performed in person at the Fox 13 studio on August 16, 2023.
