• Ages: 3–18 years old
For over 30 years, Sunshine From Polynesia has devoted itself to the teaching, performance, and preservation of hula and was founded in 1978 as a performance company. Sunshine From Polynesia evolved into a halau (dance school) where students of various generations come from all over the greater Seattle area. Sunshine From Polynesia is a family affair for the Hokes, with Honolulu-born Coco Hoke anchoring the musical group with drums, ukulele, and vocals, and their daughter, Stefanie Hoke Foster, as a core dancer. Lita’s training started in 1972 with Kumu Auntie Marge Hunt, and she continued taking occasional workshops from her and studying with other Kumu for many years.
Sunshine From Polynesia provides Polynesian entertainment in the greater Seattle area with dancers, drummers, singers, and fire performers, and is bookable for corporate or public events, private functions, luaus, weddings, birthday parties, or backyard gatherings. Sunshine From Polynesia’s regular performances include festivals, private events, and benefits, and the group performed in person at the Fox 13 studio on August 16, 2023.
One parent shared, “We have been with this community for five years. It is a wonderful, family oriented group focused on Polynesian music, dance, and culture. My daughter has blossomed in this very supported environment and we have all made many friends.” Another testimonial stated, “You exceeded any and all expectations for the amazing show at our own wedding. I had no personalized referral for you, simply your website. I kept my fingers crossed that you all were ‘good’ and ‘good’ simply is the understatement of the century. Everyone was enthralled.”
