Classes and camps are part of Taproot Theatre’s broader theatre education programs, which also include residencies, community residencies, K–12 school touring, improv shows, and performances at holiday gatherings, church services, and special events.
• Price: There is a $25 registration deposit to hold the student’s place in class. Parents are generally asked to make a minimum contribution of $50.00 for classes priced under $300.00 and a minimum contribution of $100.00 for classes priced over $300.00.
Founded in 1976, Taproot Theatre Company tells stories of hope, serving the Pacific Northwest through live theatre and educational programs, and states that it values faith, respects people, and celebrates theatre. Programs are taught by professional theatre artists who bring real-world experience, creativity, and care to every class. Theatre education at Taproot emphasizes collaboration, courage, empathy, and joy, and Youth & Teen classes and camps are scheduled after school, during holiday breaks, or over summer vacation. Taproot’s touring programs offer performances, assemblies, and improv shows tailored for classrooms, holiday gatherings, church services, and special events, and its programs for individuals living with early-stage memory loss and their care partners focus on creativity, connection, and joyful expression through music, movement, and storytelling.
Taproot aims to make theatre as accessible as possible and offers assisted listening devices for Jewell Mainstage productions, closed captioned performances, a variety of ADA-compliant seating, and sensory-friendly performances for some productions. Discounts are given to multiple family members and to students taking more than one class, with a 5% discount for two classes and a 10% discount for three or more classes when registering for all classes at the same time. Financial assistance is available to both students and schools who wish to participate in Taproot Theatre’s Acting Studio and Educational Touring, and all students and schools receiving financial assistance are required to make a financial contribution at the level they are able. Free and reduced cost access to Taproot programs is supported by 4culture.
Students need to be at camp every day and should bring a sack lunch, snack, and water each day, as well as a notebook and pencil with an eraser. Parents are asked to inform Taproot of any medical, emotional, or behavioral concerns that may affect the student’s participation in class, and Taproot reserves the right to remove children from the classroom who are continually disruptive or unable to participate fully in class activities.
