About
Pacific Northwest Performing Arts Youth Musical Theatre Programs include acting, storytelling, movement, improvisation, music, theater, and dance. The programs feature a High School Musical Jr. production, youth musical theatre auditions, and mock auditions.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: High School Musical Jr. runs January 20th–June 6th with classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00–5:30pm; Creating Community Theatre – Pay What You Can Class meets on Mondays; Summer Stock and CPT Competition Performance Team auditions take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 8:00am–8:00pm
• Price: Creating Community Theatre is offered as “Pay What You Can”; there is no cost for auditions
The High School Musical Jr. program holds auditions during the first week of classes on January 20th and 22nd, 2026, and all kids are given a part in the show for the youth musical theatre audition. The youth musical theatre audition is described as super low key and is open to singers, dancers, and actors of all experience levels, with a role available for everyone on stage and behind the scenes in High School Musical Jr. Kids auditioning are asked to prepare 32 bars of a song, which can be sung a cappella or with a track from their phone, and younger kids may use a simple song such as “Happy Birthday.” Auditioners are also asked to prepare a one-minute monologue, which can be a joke, a story, or a monologue found on the web, and it is helpful if they bring a headshot, school photo, or any picture of themselves.
All weekly classes perform every twelve weeks, and the program presents four live full-scale musicals every year, with participation in showcases, live musical theater performances, and community events. The Creating Community Theatre – Pay What You Can Class is led by Eric Ankrim and is described as welcoming and inclusive, designed for everyone regardless of age, experience level, or financial situation. Instructors are described as accomplished artists and directors who actively work both locally and nationally. The program states that its goal is uplifting the voices of its students, making them feel seen and heard, and that it has an amazing time doing it.
One parent, Elizabeth List, describes seeing a group of children who trusted their teacher, respected one another, and found joy in sharing who they are as individuals, and expresses gratitude for the program. Another parent, Randi Spiegel, notes that her daughter has been part of the Pacific Northwest Performing Arts family for many years, mentions growth in singing, dancing, and acting, and describes growth in personal confidence, teamwork skills, and passion for community, calling joining CPT one of the best decisions their family has made and describing the teachers and students as the best the area has to offer.
