About
School Age Explorers Summer Camp offers a mix of outdoor and indoor activities that include art and craft projects, cooking experiences, spirit days, field trips, and special guests. Campers map out their own adventures by creating itineraries, visiting museums, going sightseeing, attending local cooking classes, researching a country, making informational posters, cooking dishes inspired by international works of art and authentic cuisine, and presenting their work during a Culture Fair. They also take part in dance parties, make instruments specific to various countries, and document their experiences in passports and travel journals.
Campers study water by exploring why rivers flow to lakes and oceans, learning about the water cycle, and examining the science behind tsunamis, hurricanes, and typhoons. They explore density and salt water, run sink and float experiments, design their own boats, learn about the science of bubbles, build bubble shooters, and try bouncing bubbles. The program includes geocaching, rock science experiments, making sediment jars, exploring Pop Rocks audible science, and creating their own geodes.
The camp features STEM-focused activities where children create, build, and code with Legos, team up to build Lego masterpieces, and explore simple machines, force, motion, speed, and mechanical energy using everyday materials. They get an introduction to robotics, design their own 3D robots, practice unplugged coding, and participate in a study of the space program that includes an annual guest appearance by “our favorite Space Guy” and a “What Can You Build?” STEM challenge. Theater activities include studying elements of theater, choosing a theme, brainstorming and writing an original script, working on props, costumes, and invitation design, and practicing acting exercises, charades, and improv prompts.
The program also offers a backyard drive-in movie experience where campers decorate their own cars to relax in and watch kid-friendly outdoor movies. All activities are supervised by experienced and energetic teachers.
