About the provider
North End Karate was founded by Steve Curran and opened in 1977. In 2025, Steve retired and the dojo was purchased by head instructor Hanshi Lyle Maines. The leadership team includes owner Lyle Maines and dojo manager Suzanne Curran Soki. The mission statement says the dojo is inclusive and diverse and welcomes students of all ages, skill levels, and interests.
Students and parents are encouraged to visit and ask questions. Classes teach participation, respect for others, self-discipline, confidence, and resilience. Family rates are available with discounts for additional family members. In the standard programs, students are permitted 2 classes and one sparring class per week once they have achieved yellow belt. Participation in the Proctor Arts Fest is by invitation.
