About
Sound Movement Arts Center offers classes in dance and acro, including ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, modern, ballroom, musical theater (MT), heels, and Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) preparation. Recreational and competitive programs are available for students in a wide range of dance styles, and adult classes are also offered throughout the year. The studio celebrates every dancer regardless of body type, shape, or ability and is committed to a welcoming, inclusive environment.

• Schedule: Recreational classes run in a Fall season (September–December) and a Winter–Spring season (January–June), with a Summer Session offered July–August. Office hours from January 5–June 13, 2026, are Monday–Thursday 4–8 PM, Friday 4–7 PM, and Saturday 10 AM–1 PM, with Sunday closed.
Sound Movement Arts Center was established in 2015 and is entering its 11th Anniversary Season. Its mission is to provide high-quality dance and performing arts education in a positive, family-centered environment. The studio offers dance and acro classes for ages 2.5 through adult, with recreational and competitive programs for students from age 2.5 through high school, and online registration for the June Recital is open through January 17. The Nutcracker - Act 2 is presented as a fun, family-friendly version of the classic ballet featuring an all-student cast, with auditions in August and a performance in December.
Movement Dance Company (MDC) is the studio’s competitive performance team and is described as an award-winning competitive program. MDC is described as a pre-professional training program for dancers ages 6–18 who want a performance and competitive track in multiple dance styles, with age groups including MINI MDC (6–7 years), JUNIOR MDC (8–10 years), PRE-TEEN, TEEN & SENIOR MDC (11+), and PRE-TEEN, TEEN & SENIOR MDC – (YAGP) BALLET 2 COMPANY (11+). MDC holds high morale and technical expectations, commits to staying current in the dance industry, and aims to help create dedicated, humble, and team-oriented artists and leaders with lasting memories and friendships. PRE-TEEN, TEEN & SENIOR MDC – (YAGP) BALLET 2 COMPANY is a branch of MDC for intermediate and advanced ballet students (levels 3+) who wish to experience Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), specific conventions, competitions, and extra performing opportunities beyond the recreational program and different from the core MDC competitive experience. Summer class requirements are specified for each MDC age group, including minimum numbers and types of classes and total class counts over the summer, and auditions for MDC take place in June and July after the annual June Recital, with small group and makeup auditions scheduled for July 26–27, 2025. For MDC auditions, students are taught combinations in multiple styles, may be asked to improvise or freestyle, and are required to wear form-fitting dance attire with proper dance shoes and performance-ready hair that is off the face, with clothing and hair intended to help the student look and feel confident rather than distracted.
