About
Claudette Walker School of Dance offers classes in tap, ballet, pointe, jazz, acrobatic, lyrical, and musical theatre. The program includes both group lessons and private lessons, and dance classes are available for the preschool child through adults. Drop-ins are welcome, and the school welcomes recreational dancers as well as those seeking a professional level.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Studio classes are offered Monday–Thursday from 3 pm to 8 pm and Saturday from 10 am to noon, with adult tap on Tuesday and Thursday at 6 pm and adult jazz at 6:45 pm; classes begin September 8th.
Claudette Walker School of Dance has been in its current location since 1964 and was designed exclusively for dance education. Claudette Walker was a professional dancer at the age of 9 and began her teacher training under professional dancer Toots Johnson. After moving to the Northwest, she taught for American School of Dance before opening her own studio and has continued to teach and adjudicate for both regional and national dance organizations for Dance Masters of America and Dance Educators of America, including workshops in New York, Florida, Canada, Montana, California, Nevada, and throughout Washington. Claudette’s goal is to make everyone’s dance experience a rewarding and exciting one with positive reinforcement and a strong commitment to artistic integrity as well as stressing the importance of good technique.
The school has been part of local and international performances, including the Washington State Fair, Oregon State Fair, Cinco de Mayo, Hillsboro Happy Days, Rose Festival, Festival of Trees, St. Joseph Sausage Fest, International Food Festival, and other performances throughout the city and county. The school has performed 34 shows at Nagoya, Japan at the Formula II Racetrack and theme park and at a Japanese elementary school, has traveled to Greece and performed in Athens, Corinth, and on the Triton Cruise Ship, and has performed in Cancun, Mexico at La Isla Village, Excaret Park, Chickenitza, and the Hard Rock Cafe. Claudette Walker School of Dance has received multiple choreography and performance-related awards, including DEA Choreography Awards (2006, 2007, 2008), LA DanceForce Choreography Award, Tremaine Choreography Award, Dance Masters of America Choreography Award, DEA High Score Regional Award 2009, Dance Masters of America Pacific NW Mr, Miss, Jr Mr, Miss, Pre Teen and Mr DMA titles, Dance Magic Choreography Award (Erica Burton), Dance Magic Stardust Awards and Championship High Score Awards, and the National Hoctor Award for solo, duo, trio, and group.
