Since 2018, STEM Like a Girl has been creating a place where girls in grades 3–5 and their adult can explore STEM together. The mission of STEM Like a Girl is to excite and empower girls with knowledge and confidence in STEM to become future problem solvers and leaders. The workshops serve girls in 3rd–5th grade, where adults work with their girl to solve fun science and engineering challenges, and activities introduce real-world STEM applications. Half-day workshops are described as an affordable and approachable way for families and are intended to strengthen family bonds in shared STEM learning experiences. The organization notes that workshops spark curiosity and confidence, inspiring girls and adults to explore STEM beyond the event, and that female STEM professionals can mentor and educate girls about careers in science and engineering because girls need to see strong women in STEM fields to feel supported in pursuing their own science and engineering interests.

The leadership team includes Sarah Foster (Founder & Executive Director), Courtney Davis (Secretary), Jamie Gibbs (Treasurer), Aurae Beidler (Vice Chair), Rachelle Cheung, Cami Walker, and Gianna Giacolona. The program thanks its sponsors and partners for their community involvement.

Parent and participant feedback includes comments such as a parent reporting their daughter saying, “I’m a girl who does STEM. I’m a STEM girl!” on the way home, and a 5th grade girl sharing that she enjoyed spending time with her mom and thought the bath bomb making was very fun. Other parents describe the event as engaging and inspiring, and one parent highlighted a feeling of excitement and inclusion and noted the racial diversity of the volunteers. Another parent stated that the workshops were age appropriate, well organized, and that activities were fun and challenging, allowing each girl to create unique projects. A 4th grade girl said, “It was so fun! When is the next one?” A workshop volunteer expressed that the workshops are well run and that the kids have fun, and shared wanting to help the program reach as many girls as possible. One participant, Gatee, shared the message, “Don’t be afraid to try new things and make changes if something doesn’t work out.”
