About
ESI Explore Summer Day Camp is offered by ESI, Inc., a non-profit organization that focuses on assisting individuals with disabilities in obtaining their personal independence and employment goals. The camp is part of a broader set of programs at ESI that include employment opportunities and day services focusing on developing life skills and fostering independence.
ESI, Inc. was started in 1973 by 10 parents who wanted a local resource that offered their children compassionate care and engaging meaningful activities, and it opened its doors that year as East Shore Industries, Inc. to 10 clients. Today, ESI serves almost 100 individuals a year and offers programs and services that are described as unique and designed to meet the specific needs of each client. ESI develops unique service plans to meet each client’s desired goals, with services that target work readiness skills and life skills offered through day service activities to support greater independence in everyday living and work readiness. All services are described as being designed to meet each person where they are most comfortable and to support them in being successful in the life they choose.
ESI staff receive DSP Training Certification. ESI is described as empowering and supporting individuals with disabilities and autism, and as helping individuals with disabilities and autism achieve greater independence both in everyday living and work readiness. From employment opportunities to day services, the programs and services at East Shore focus on developing life skills and fostering independence, allowing each individual the opportunity to contribute to their own well-being and to the community in which they live.
ESI is described as being proud to be part of the local community and as helping clients connect and build relationships in the community by providing opportunities to reach out, explore, volunteer, and work. One parent of an ESI client stated, “Everyone is their own individual, that’s so important here, because you can’t have a canned program and expect everyone to fit in.”
