ESI Explore Summer Day Camp is offered by ESI, Inc., a non-profit organization that focuses on individuals with disabilities and autism. The camp is part of a broader set of programs and services that focus on developing life skills and fostering independence, allowing each individual the opportunity to contribute to his or her own well being and to the community in which they live. Services are provided in a combination of both facility-based and community-based formats, and programs and services are designed to meet the specific needs of each client.
ESI, Inc. states that it empowers and supports individuals with disabilities and autism and is dedicated to assisting individuals with disabilities in obtaining their personal independence and employment goals. ESI was started in 1973 by 10 parents who wanted a local resource that offered their children compassionate care and engaging meaningful activities, and it opened its doors as East Shore Industries, Inc. in 1973 to 10 clients. ESI serves almost 100 individuals a year and develops unique service plans to meet each client’s desired goals, with all services designed to meet the person where they are most comfortable and to support them in the life they choose.
Services at ESI include options that target work readiness skills to expand clients’ employment paths and life skills offered through day service activities to help individuals become more independent in their homes. Programs focus on developing life skills and fostering independence, allowing each individual the opportunity to contribute to his or her own well being and to the community in which they live. ESI reports that its staff receive DSP Training Certification.
ESI describes itself as being proud to be part of its local community and states that it helps clients connect and build relationships to their community by providing opportunities to reach out, explore, volunteer and work in the area it serves, including Kewaunee County, Door County and Brown County. One parent testimonial about ESI states, “Everyone is their own individual, that’s so important here, because you can’t have a canned program and expect everyone to fit in.”
