About

Iron County Summer Camp Programs include activities such as biking, fishing, swimming, and a half-day canoe trip on the Manitowish River. The Iron County Summer Youth Camp and Iron County Summer Outpost Camp both run under this program name.

• Ages: 8–13 years old
• Schedule: Camp staff training runs Saturday, July 11 through Sunday, July 12, 2026, Iron County Outpost Camp runs Tuesday, July 7 through Friday, July 10, 2026, and Iron County Summer Youth Camp runs Tuesday, July 21 through Friday, July 24, 2026.

Iron County Summer Youth Camp is described as an opportunity for youth in grades 3–5 from throughout Iron County to spend a week getting to know each other better, build stronger, and create new friendships. The camp creates roles for eighth grade and high school students to act as leaders, role models, and mentors to the younger youth placed in their care. Parents are described as trusting the program with planning a safe learning experience for their kids. Iron County Summer Outpost Camp is for youth in grades 6–8 and focuses on building leadership and teamwork skills, with campers building stronger friendships through physical challenges and a rustic camping experience, and it is described as a great opportunity for community youth to gain independence.

The program is led locally by Neil Klemme, 4-H Youth Development Educator. Extension’s mission is to connect people with the University of Wisconsin and to teach, learn, lead, and serve, transforming lives and communities. The University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension states that it provides equal opportunities in employment and programming in compliance with state and federal law.

Year after year, community members and organizations provide donations that keep the experience at a low cost for youth.
