Lutherdale Summer Camp was founded as a summer camp for kids in 1944. The program’s stated mission is “Experiencing God's love and growing in faith together in Creation.” It is part of a faith community dedicated to building lives in Christ through the wonder of God's creation and the study of God's Word. Lutherdale is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and welcomes all denominations and faiths to experience its site and programs. The organization describes itself as a place for rejuvenation, learning, fellowship, and recreation, with a vibrant ministry of hospitality year-round for youth, families, and adults. It offers opportunities for people of all ages to connect with nature, and all are welcome to explore the campus. Lutherdale states that every day, all week long, campers are accepted and celebrated for exactly who God made them to be, and that it provides a nurturing, safe environment for people of all ages to try new activities and learn new things. The organization states that it believes every camper deserves to be welcomed, accepted, known, celebrated, and loved at Lutherdale.
