Sugar Creek Camp and Retreat Center offers activities such as horse camp, hiking, biking, creek stomping, wading through creeks, fishing, crafts, gathering around campfires, and stargazing. Sugar Creek Camp and Retreat Center is an ACA-accredited, nonprofit outdoor ministry of the ELCA. It has been serving churches, families, schools, and community groups with camps, retreats, and service opportunities since its beginnings in 1966, for over 60 years. The organization offers year-round retreats for all ages, as well as venues for weddings, conferences, and other gatherings. The camp is supported by a network of over 125 ELCA congregations across the Midwest, along with volunteers and donors, and is described as an extension of congregational ministry. The mission of Sugar Creek Camp and Retreat Center is: “Where all generations encounter Christ, experience God’s grace, and are empowered by the Holy Spirit to go forth in faith.” The program is described as Christ-centered, small group focused, and welcoming to all, including people of all faith backgrounds or those still searching, with faith woven into every experience at camp and with attention to learning and practicing care for God’s creation. Trained staff and nurses are part of the team.
