Instructor Mary Palmisano is a second degree black belt who has been teaching martial arts full-time for many years and serves as the Executive Director of J.K. Lee City Youth Martial Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The leadership team includes Master Lee and Instructor Mary Palmisano. The school states that its focus is on character development, physical fitness, and self-defense rather than fighting, with an overarching goal of building students’ self-esteem. Instruction includes personal safety awareness, anti-bullying skills, and seeking alternatives to conflict, and self-defense is a component of all martial arts training. The program describes a community that respects, encourages, supports, and celebrates students’ successes, with professional martial arts instructors committed to developing whole-person potential.

JK Lee Blackbelt Academy reports an emphasis on social, interpersonal, and anti-bullying skills, with programs for all ages and a specialty in working with children and families. It notes a focus on character development, social skills, and physical fitness for children, and on the mental and physical benefits of martial arts for adults. The J.K. Lee City Youth Martial Arts Program is described as an inner city school and outreach program serving underserved neighborhoods, touching thousands of youth and reaching over 600 students in rank advancing programs every week. The Annual Board Break-a-thon Supporting Childhood Cancer Research brings all seven schools together each year and has raised over one million dollars to date.

The academy offers a “Life Lessons From Martial Arts Masters” newsletter and free reports on topics such as adult fitness, after school programs, birthday parties, martial arts styles, human potential, child obesity, attention deficit, child discipline, and self confidence. Instructor Mary Palmisano completed the “Ultimate Black Belt Test” and competed in the Hamnadang National Tournament. She graduated with honors from Baldwin-Wallace College with a double major in history and political science, was awarded an Ohio Board of Regents fellowship, attended The Ohio State University College of Law, and is a former criminal/juvenile defense attorney. Master Lee states, “Thanks for visiting. We'd love to have you as a student at our martial arts school. But first, you should learn more about us by reviewing the info on this site. I hope you find your visit valuable and I look forward to hearing from you.”
