• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Price: One Month of Martial Arts Classes - $59

The program’s stated focus is on character development, physical fitness, and self-defense, rather than fighting, with an overarching goal of building students’ self-esteem. Instruction includes personal safety awareness, anti-bullying skills, and seeking alternatives to conflict, and self-defense is a component of all martial arts training at JK Lee Blackbelt Academy. The academy offers martial arts programs for all ages and notes a specialty in working with children and families, with professional martial arts instructors committed to developing the whole-person potential of each student.

The leadership team includes Master Lee and Instructor Mary Palmisano, who is a second degree black belt and the Executive Director of J.K. Lee City Youth Martial Arts. Instructor Mary Palmisano has been teaching martial arts full-time for many years, graduated with honors from Baldwin-Wallace College with a double major in history and political science, was awarded an Ohio Board of Regents fellowship, and attended The Ohio State University College of Law. She is a former criminal/juvenile defense attorney, completed the “Ultimate Black Belt Test,” and competed in the Hamnadang National Tournament.

JK Lee Blackbelt Academy describes its community as one that respects, encourages, supports, and celebrates each other’s successes. The academy is committed to engaging with the local community and every year hosts or participates in a variety of initiatives to support the city, neighborhoods, and local schools. The J.K. Lee City Youth Martial Arts Program is an inner city school and outreach program serving children and families in underserved neighborhoods, touching thousands of youth and reaching over 600 students in rank advancing programs every week. Every year all seven schools come together for the Annual Board Break-a-thon supporting childhood cancer research, and to date they have raised over one million dollars to help end childhood cancer.
