About
Studio Dansu offers classes in HipHop, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acting, and Voice. Students can take multiple types of training in one place, including both dance and performing arts classes.
Studio Dansu’s mission is to educate and encourage students to become knowledgeable and passionate thinking artists, while they develop technique and artistry in the creative and performing arts and learn self-discipline, teamwork, and confidence. The program focuses on teaching the foundations of the creative and performing arts rather than competition, and it integrates the history of each discipline into students’ education. Studio Dansu uses an age-appropriate syllabus that supports students’ physical and mental development and offers a comprehensive arts education curriculum for both aspiring professionals and hobbyists. The faculty is a professional team of teaching artists who hold degrees or certifications in their field, and instructors are encouraged to pursue ongoing education. The leadership and staff team includes Owner and Artistic Director Jayme Shimooka, dance instructors Sarah Barnard, Alexis Lepperd, Peyton Yang, and Tyra Lex, acting and music instructor Charly Sparks, dance substitute instructor Fallon Stanislawski, facility attendant Kammie Atkins, office assistants Charlotte Gyuro and Olivia Robbins, and student office assistants Will Carroll and Zoe Shimooka. Studio Dansu was established in 2021. One parent, Tina B., reports that her son has taken HipHop, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acting, and Voice classes there for the past few years and has enjoyed his training, describing the teachers as talented, knowledgeable, and encouraging and recommending Studio Dansu. Studio Dansu also publicly recognizes that its arts center and performance theaters occupy the ancestral land of the Ho-Chunk Nation, acknowledges the history of forced removal, honors the Ho-Chunk people’s legacy of resistance and resilience, and affirms respect for the sovereignty and cultures of the twelve First Nations within Wisconsin as part of its stated belief in the transformative power of the arts and commitment to educating, enriching, and celebrating the shared human experience.
