UMOS Migrant and Seasonal Head Start

UMOS Child Development (Migrant and Seasonal Head Start) offers early childhood care and education services that meet the specific needs of migrant and seasonal farmworker families. The program serves children of seasonal agricultural workers under five years of age in more than 30 centers across rural communities in Wisconsin, Missouri, and Texas. The program provides culturally and linguistically responsive services to survivors of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

UMOS Child Development (Migrant and Seasonal Head Start) is part of UMOS, a multi-state nonprofit that empowers individuals, families, and communities through integrated workforce, education, and social services. UMOS was formed in 1965 by community and faith leaders. UMOS is an Equal Opportunity Service Provider and Employer. The organization’s leadership includes President & CEO José Martinez and Vice President, Child Development Maria “Carmen” Valle, PhD, along with other executive and board leaders. UMOS partners with state and local government agencies to administer the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program and partners with companies such as Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, and Breadsmith, as well as nonprofits including Feeding America, area churches, and schools for its Food Pantry. UMOS administers the Wisconsin Works (W-2) program and has exceeded the state’s goal for helping parents obtain high-wage jobs by 136% and for maintaining those jobs for at least six months by 155% of the state goal.
