About
Children’s Community School offers activities that include jungle animals, dinosaurs, fairies, multicultural folktale and drama, space, science fun, baking, insects, puppets, gardening, and home-grown cooking. The program includes summer camps with weekly themes based on these topics and more. Children participate in these activities within a Montessori preschool setting that emphasizes uninterrupted, individual work in an aesthetically pleasing classroom and carefully prepared indoor and outdoor classroom environments.

Children’s Community School has been providing Montessori education since 1976. The mission of Children’s Community School in Mount Horeb is to provide a nurturing and challenging Montessori preschool environment where children explore the world and their place in it through hands-on experiences and social encounters, and where students acquire knowledge and skills for independent thinking, resourceful problem-solving, active citizenship, and life-long learning. Montessori educational practice at the school focuses on concentration, coordination, independence, positive self-esteem, creativity, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with small group lessons for children at varying developmental stages and individualized curriculum through sequenced learning experiences.
The school’s values include respect, hands-on purposeful experiences, inspiring creativity, staying in touch with nature, positive and peaceful social encounters, and a nurturing and challenging environment. Children’s Community School has a commitment to inclusion and welcomes children from all racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds, and accepts children with special needs provided adequate staffing and funds. Classrooms, the multipurpose room, and much of the outdoor space are handicap accessible, and the school has a 504/ADA Prohibition Against Disability Discrimination Policy and a Limited English Proficiency Language Access Plan. Board of directors meetings, conferences, interviews, and other gatherings are held in an accessible location, and the school has a non-discrimination policy that covers multiple protected bases and major employment activities.
Children’s Community School is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit supported by a volunteer Board of Directors and is a member of the American Montessori Society. The school is also a Mount Horeb Area School District 4K partner, and staff work hand in hand with families.
