About
Children’s Community School offers activities that include jungle animals, dinosaurs, fairies, multicultural folktale and drama, space, science fun, baking, insects, puppets, gardening, and home-grown cooking. The program takes place in a Montessori preschool setting with uninterrupted, individual work in an aesthetically pleasing classroom and an emphasis on respect for the individual and the environment. Children learn in carefully prepared indoor and outdoor classroom spaces, and the classrooms, multipurpose room, and much of the outdoor space are handicap accessible.

Children’s Community School has been providing Montessori education since 1976. Its mission states that it is dedicated to providing a nurturing and challenging Montessori preschool environment where children can explore the world and their place in it through frequent hands-on experiences and social encounters, and that CCS students acquire knowledge and skills essential for independent thinking, resourceful problem-solving, active citizenship, and life-long learning. The program includes a rich play-based environment for toddlers and multi-age preschool programs for children ages three to six years who are toileting independently, as well as weekly themed summer camps. The curriculum is individualized, with students developing at their own pace through sequenced learning experiences, with a focus on hands-on learning and positive social interactions.

Children’s Community School is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is a member of the American Montessori Society, and is a Mount Horeb Area School District 4K partner. The school has a volunteer Board of Directors that supports staff in their mission.
Children’s Community School states a commitment to inclusion of children from all racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds. The program accepts children with special needs provided adequate staffing and funds, and the classrooms, multipurpose room, and much of the outdoor space are handicap accessible. The school has a 504/ADA Prohibition Against Disability Discrimination Policy, a Limited English Proficiency Language Access Plan, and a non-discrimination policy that covers a wide range of protected characteristics. Staff work hand in hand with families as part of the school’s community involvement.
