Teachers and staff at Champions at Rock Ledge undergo extensive training on health and safety practices, including pandemic-response protocols, and are trained in first aid and CPR. Teachers and staff members are trained in child development, early childhood education, or a related field, and criminal background checks are conducted on staff. The program states that it has a wellness screening located near the Family Communication Area and includes daily lessons in community building and character development focused on emotional wellness.
Only authorized staff and families may enter the sites, and all children must be signed in and out on a paper-based roster and/or computer system. Only pre-approved people with photo identification may pick up a child, and written authorization must be on file before a child is released to anyone. The program uses strict procedures for pick-up and drop-off, including sign-in/sign-out and photo identification, and asks families not to post photos or videos that contain images of children other than their own on the internet.
All sites include smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, and cleaning is done with safe, non-toxic cleaning products along with frequent hand washing. Supervised outdoor play takes place only on outdoor play spaces the program identifies as safe and secure. The program has strict policies for administering medication, including requiring a doctor’s note for any medication for children under age 2. Each site has an emergency evacuation plan that is tested frequently and posted in each classroom, and a National Support Center crisis team supports each center during and after emergencies.
Most sites offer breakfast, lunch, and snacks, though meal service may vary by site, and menus at sites that provide meal service satisfy applicable federal and state nutrition guidelines. The program’s stated mission is to offer activities that combine fun and learning, together with the safety and convenience of a high-quality program right inside the school.
