About
South Milwaukee Recreation Department Youth Programs and Leagues offers activities that include T-Ball, Rocket Poms Camp, Rocket Basketball Camp, Summer Paint & Take, Art Classes for Kids, and Summer Skyhawks Sports Camps. The department also offers Basic Drawing and Watercolor Painting, Tackle Football Registration, Adult Water Aerobics classes, and open-swim. The program includes both youth activities and adult options such as Adult Field Trip to Indie Bookstores and use of the Fitness Center and Indoor Track.
• Schedule: Open-swim is offered on Saturdays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
• Price: Open-swim on Saturdays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm costs $2 per visit, with payment received at the door, and a new membership card costs $5 (cash only) if a member does not have their card.
The South Milwaukee Recreation Department is a department within the school district and offers programming year-round, including team sports, camps, enrichment programs, fine arts, and exercise for youth through adults. It provides a Before and After Care program at all four of the district elementary schools and offers Fitness Center memberships with no joining, cancellation, or maintenance fees, and monthly and annual memberships do not automatically renew unless requested. For the Fitness Center, members are encouraged to bring their own lock for the lockers, bring a photo I.D. on the first visit, and scan a membership card for entry on each visit.
The instructor for Summer Paint & Take is Nancy Wolf, who has taught art for the Racine Unified School District since 2001 and has a master’s in visual arts. The Recreation Department leadership team includes Stan Dorff, Director of Recreation; Nancy Paczocha, Recreation Department Secretary; Adam Voss, Fitness Center Manager; Rachel Abraham, Performing Arts Center Executive Director; Michelle Majerus-Uelmen, Box Office Manager & Marketing Director; and Nicholas DaVia, Technical Director. The department’s mission is to enhance the quality of life by providing recreational, educational, and social opportunities in partnership with schools, organizations, and the community.
