About

Camp AweSum Family Camp at Moon Beach includes activities such as archery, boating, drumming, kayaking, fishing, hiking, yoga, guided arts and crafts sessions, swimming, games, and campfires. During respite time, campers age five and older, regardless of neurodiversity, take part in activities such as archery, boating, and drumming. Some families bring bicycles to use on miles of paved trails in the area, and others choose activities like kayaking, fishing, hiking, yoga, or guided arts and crafts sessions.

• Schedule: Camp AweSum Family Camp 1 runs June 14–20, 2026; Camp AweSum Family Camp 2 runs June 21–27, 2026; Camp AweSum Family Camp 3 runs August 2–8, 2026; Camp AweSum 5-Day Family Camp runs August 9–13, 2026; in 2025, sessions run June 15–21, June 22–28, August 3–9, and August 10–14, with respite provided daily between breakfast and lunch.

Camp AweSum is a not-for-profit charitable organization, 501(c)3, that provides summer camp opportunities for those touched by autism, including children on the autism spectrum and their families. Camp AweSum Family Camp at Moon Beach is described as an opportunity for families to vacation with other families who “understand your story,” and the camp will provide rest, relaxation, and play. Camps are supported by experienced professionals and trained volunteers, and respite is provided daily between breakfast and lunch by trained volunteers, who observe, learn, and work alongside experienced professionals in the field of autism. The Camp AweSum mission statement is that it is transforming lives by providing a respect-based culture of acceptance, support, and understanding for those who are touched by autism, through community building and education.

Registration for 2026 Camp AweSum Family Camps and volunteers will open on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., and registration for 2025 will open on Monday, January 20, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. Families can register online or by calling 715-479-8255; clicking the Register button opens a new window for the account creation or account login page, and after creating an account and logging in, participants select themselves and filter the sessions by Moon Beach. A tutorial video is available that walks through the process of registering for Family Camp, and those interested in working with children on the autism spectrum and their families are invited to consider volunteering for Camp AweSum Family Camp at Moon Beach.

One volunteer described the experience as “one of the most rewarding, life-changing, impactful experiences you will ever have,” noting “so many things to learn and experience, so many ways to grow and change, and so many friends that you will make along the way.” Another volunteer stated, “I use the knowledge I learned from camp every single.” A Memory Camp guest at Moon Beach reported that “the facilities were accessible, the staff was kind and caring, the activities were wonderful, and the food was amazing,” and said the family was “shown utmost respect” and that staff “went out of their way to give us a relaxing and unforgettable experience.” A guest and volunteer at Moon Beach reflected on watching “in amazement as teens care about one another” and on “the joy of someone at Camp AweSum who catches a fish or completes a craft project.” A Family Camp host at Moon Beach said that “every time we gather here, there is this amazing spiritual burst of goodness,” and that people find themselves “closer to nature, closer to each other, and closer to the Spirit of God within themselves.”
