Canaland Early Learning is a Christian child care where children can experience the love of Jesus, and children and families from all or no denominational background are welcome to enroll. The program follows a first come – first serve waitlist policy and describes its environment as a home away from home where children feel safe, secure and loved. Its mission states that at Canaland, children love to learn and learn to love, building a strong foundation in faith, learning, and relationships, and that children grow as individuals while learning that God loves them and has a plan for their lives.

Canaland began on April 1, 1985, starting with two children and two employees. Over 40 years, it has grown to serving over 2,500 children in the Stevens Point and surrounding areas, with current enrollment at over 150 children and about 100 attending per day from ages 6 weeks to before and after school care. Canaland employs about 30–35 staff members at any given time.

The program’s founders and visionaries are Pastors Matt and Deb Mallek, and Pastor Deb was known for braiding little girls’ hair and making sure every child felt seen and cared for. Staff are state certified and trained in CPR, AED, Shaken Baby Syndrome, and Sudden Infant Death. Canaland is accredited with the International Christian Accrediting Association, is state licensed through the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families, and is YoungStar rated.

Canaland employs UWSP students, giving those students experience while they work with the children in care. The program offers monthly events for children and families, including Movie Nights, Celebrate Culture days, and Mamaland, and it states that it has partnered with families for generations.
