Camp WeHaKee is an overnight summer camp for girls in the Northwoods of Wisconsin that has been in operation for over 100 summers, with its 100-year celebration held in 2023 after opening in 1923. The camp has a 2:1 camper-to-staff ratio and added its horse stables and horse program in 1968. The mission of Camp WeHaKee states that it is a place where girls build confidence, form friendships that last a lifetime, and figure out who they are away from the noise of everyday life, in a community rooted in connection, tradition, and building confidence that lasts far beyond camp. The camp is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) and has a 4.9 Google Rating.
The leadership team includes directors Stacie Simpson and Cory Harrison, with former directors Bob and Maggie Braun, founding director Sister David O’Leary, second director Sister Noel Boggs, third director Sister Marie Karen Hawkinson, and fourth director Sister Arturo Cranston. One parent from Chicago, IL, reports that her daughter “came home more confident every summer,” gained confidence, made friends from all over the world, enjoyed the all-girls experience, and that “the staff made it so special” when she celebrated her birthday at camp, also noting that her daughter “loves the food.” A parent from Madison, WI, describes Camp WeHaKee as “an inclusive, uplifting, magical childhood experience” and says her daughters attended for three years, including a full month away, and “came home happier, more mature, and already asking about next summer.” A former camper and counselor from Mexico City, MX, shares that she traveled from Mexico starting at age 7 to attend as a camper for 5 years, then returned as a counselor for 6 more summers, and calls Camp WeHaKee “the best thing my parents could do for me” and says “WeHaKee shaped who I am.”
