About

Buena Vista Children's Services offers programs where children can spend time on homework, take part in activities, and engage in dramatic play. The Clarkdale Discovery Connection Afterschool Program uses a Discovery Connection curriculum that includes time for homework, activities, and dramatic play. Buena Vista Children’s Services also offers quality Pre-K education and skill building aligned with Arizona State Education Standards and designs and implements a preschool curriculum aligned with Arizona Early Learning Standards.

Buena Vista Children’s Services was established in May of 1997 as a sole proprietorship and later became a 501c3 nonprofit corporation in 2001. Over the years, it has received multiple grants, including a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant through the Arizona Department of Education and HRSS Grants from the Arizona Department of Economic Security to recruit, study, and certify child care home providers in several Arizona counties. The organization’s mission is to design, develop, and implement model programs for children, parents, and educators that address child abuse prevention, resource, and referral, as well as emerging needs in child care, education, and parenting. Buena Vista Children’s Services is supported by over 60 local and state-wide businesses and collaborates with partners such as the Clarkdale/Jerome School District, Verde Valley Medical Center, Yavapai College, and Community Counts. It offers Bright Futures Child Care in collaboration with Verde Valley Medical Center, monthly free Early Childhood Education trainings connected to the Arizona On The Move Early Childhood Education Conference, and a free lending library for community members and early childhood educators. The organization also hosts an annual Children’s Celebration, a free community event for families and children that has been formally recognized by the City Council of Cottonwood.
