About

Salvation Army Summer Camp offers adventure and scouting, arts and crafts, music development, and sports as part of its daily program. Campers take part in these activities with trained counselors who understand children's emotional needs and problems. The program notes that what campers take home from the experience will not fit in a backpack.

• Ages: 7–16 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm

Discovery Camp, a part of Salvation Army Summer Camp, is for children ages 7 to 16 years. The Salvation Army states that each summer, children from low-income Valley of the Sun families attend its annual summer camps, where they have fresh air, exercise, and new friendships. It also states that many inner city children will never experience a cool summer night singing around a campfire with new friends, and that the camping experience is more than just a pleasant vacation, as children learn new skills and self-reliance.

The Salvation Army reports that, in 2024, it helped 261,278 people in Metro Phoenix. It also reports having more no-fee residential treatment facilities than any rehab program in America and helping equip more than 150,000 people each year to overcome alcohol and drug dependence. When goods are donated to The Salvation Army, those items are sold at Family Stores, and the proceeds are used to fund Adult Rehabilitation Centers.

The Salvation Army describes itself as an international movement and an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. It states that its message is based on the Bible, its ministry is motivated by the love of God, and its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
