About
Metropolitan Youth Symphony Summer Camp is a week-long program that includes full day and half day camp options. The program offers specific activities such as Yoga for Musicians, where participants become familiar with basic yoga poses that can improve posture and balance, ease tension, and build flexibility. For this class, clothing must allow free movement and not restrict stretches for the arms or legs.
• Ages: 10–18 years old
• Schedule: Week-long program from June 23–27, 2025, with full day and half day options and auditions held Tuesday, June 3 through Friday, June 6
• Price: Full Day $300 + $35 after June 1; Half Day Camp $200 (first year strings only) + $35 after June 1
The schedule includes a full day option from 8am to 3pm and a half day camp for first year strings from 8am to 12pm. All groups present a free concert on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 6:30pm, and all full day campers audition for placement. The camp is open to both Metropolitan Youth Symphony (MYS) members and non-MYS members, with strings participation through the summer after 9th grade and band participation through 12th grade, and includes elective offerings.
The mission of Metropolitan Youth Symphony is to educate young instrumental musicians in the art of performance to develop character, discipline, leadership, cultural awareness, and a strong commitment to excellence, enabling MYS to contribute to the Valley of the Sun's musical heritage and create a higher level of appreciation for the performing arts. MYS’s general operations are supported, in part, by a grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, with funding from the State of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts, and by the Mesa Creative Economy Fund.
