The idea Museum was founded in 1978 and partnered with the City of Mesa in 1987. The opening of ArtVille in 2004 and the renaming to idea Museum in 2014 marked key points in its history, and the first phase of renovation was completed in 2025. The museum’s mission is to ignite the boundless imagination of children by curating interactive learning experiences where art and creativity are central. The leadership team includes Director Jarrad Bittner, Experience Curator Melissa Martinez, Education Curator Traci Quinn, several Education Assistants, and other administrative and development staff, with John Whiteman as the founder. The museum also notes that its values supplement those of the City of Mesa and the Mesa Arts and Culture department.
