TheaterWorks’ educational offerings are part of an organization whose story stretches back to 1986, with the “Kids Alive” program established in 1987 as a flagship program providing a platform for creativity and performance opportunities. The mission of Theater Works is to provide opportunities for children, patrons, and artists to experience theater that inspires, enriches, and enlightens through the experience of the performing arts. The organization created the “AdaptiveWorks” program to extend theater experiences to participants regardless of ability and also presents the Main Stage Series of classic and contemporary plays, musicals, and comedies, along with YouthWorks productions for younger audiences. TheaterWorks states a community goal of being a significant cultural resource for Peoria and the West Valley, improving quality of life through the expression and experience of the performing arts, and notes that it offers laughter, drama, and a range of theater experiences for audiences of all ages. TheaterWorks and its leadership have received recognition that includes the 2019 Arts Advocate Organization Award from the National Society of Arts & Letters and the 2020 Governor’s Arts Award for C.W.
