AZ ACT is a community-based performing arts program formed to bring a variety of people together into one community through the joy of performing, where educational programs become performances and challenges are overcome through connection. The program describes itself as a place that guides and directs participants as they develop and grow into the best performers they can be. AZ ACT now welcomes students and performers from all over the Valley, not just in Ahwatukee, and its show choirs are described as award-winning.
Executive director Melissa Snow has led the program since the 2021–2022 season and has a background in dance, music, and theatre, including competitive dance, corps membership with Ballet Repertoire Theatre, and work as a Disney parade performer, as well as teaching dance at multiple studios and a traveling dance convention. Staff member Bailey has studied vocal lessons for over 10 years, performed in numerous musical productions throughout college, and earned a Masters in Elementary Reading Education in 2021, while Megan Snow holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University and first joined Ahwatukee Children’s Theatre as a student in 2005. Anna Cederdahl is a sophomore at Arizona State University Barrett studying Elementary Education and has been involved in theatre productions around Phoenix since 2009, beginning teaching there in 2018. Taylor Day holds a degree in Choral Music Education from Northern Arizona University, teaches K–5 general music in the Kyrene Elementary School District, directs choir at Chandler Children’s Choir, teaches voice at AzACT, and serves as a music director with Arizona Community Theatrical Company (AzACT). Rebecca DeCero has 12 years of musical theatre dance and tap experience, more than 10 years of performing in AZACT show choirs and productions, and teaches 4th and 5th grade history after earning a B.A. in History from the University of Wyoming in 2023.
AZ ACT’s leadership team includes executive director Melissa Snow, accounting secretary Shannon Reagan, and board member Jason Gellman, who has served on the board since September 2024, along with Ahwatukee Children’s Theatre board member Liz O’Neall. Shannon’s daughter has been part of the ACT family since 2017.
